The buzz around Mumbai Indians camp has already begun ahead of IPL 2026, and it didn’t take long for some light-hearted banter to grab attention. Just hours into their pre-season training on March 16, a viral clip featuring Rohit Sharma playfully roasting Shardul Thakur set social media abuzz. During a net session, Thakur, who recently joined MI from Lucknow Super Giants, bowled a loose delivery that Rohit dispatched effortlessly into the stands.
As the ball sailed over, Rohit Sharma cheekily repeated, “Catch it… in the stands,” leaving Thakur smiling at the witty remark. The moment perfectly captured the relaxed yet competitive environment within the MI camp. Alongside Rohit and Thakur, several squad members including Mayank Markande, Allah Ghazanfar, Naman Dhir, and Raja Angad Bawa reported for the initial phase of training.

The first session focused heavily on fitness and conditioning, with players undergoing agility drills, movement routines, and performance assessments under the watchful eyes of the support staff. Head coach Mahela Jayawardene stressed the importance of a strong start to the pre-season. “There’s always something special about the first day. The energy, the excitement—it’s all about setting the tone early,” he said.

Mumbai Indians, who made the playoffs last season, will open their IPL 2026 campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 29 at the Wankhede Stadium. With a mix of fun, focus, and intensity, MI appear well on track for another strong season.
