As the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium prepares to welcome fans once again for the upcoming Indian Premier League 2026 season, authorities have rolled out an extensive security blueprint to ensure a safe and seamless matchday experience. After last year’s tragic stampede, the focus this time is firmly on crowd discipline, structured movement, and responsible celebration.

Leading the charge is Seemant Kumar Singh, who has emphasised a simple yet powerful message — “Cheer Responsibly.” The police have made it clear that while fans are encouraged to enjoy the high-octane action, strict protocols will be enforced both inside and outside the venue. This season is expected to witness tighter monitoring, increased manpower, and advanced surveillance systems.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru management has also taken meaningful steps to honour the victims of the 2025 tragedy. In a heartfelt gesture, 11 seats inside the stadium will remain permanently unoccupied throughout the season, serving as a silent tribute. Additionally, players will wear jersey number 11 during practice sessions and black armbands on matchdays, reinforcing the emotional connection with fans.

RCB CEO Rajesh Menon confirmed that multiple safety audits and reviews have been conducted in collaboration with the state government and local authorities. Infrastructure upgrades include over 300 AI-enabled CCTV cameras, redesigned entry and exit points, and several mock drills to test emergency preparedness.

One of the biggest changes this season is the expansion of stadium access points. Authorities have increased the number of gates to over 40, along with designated holding areas to prevent overcrowding. Only valid ticket holders will be allowed near the stadium premises, eliminating unnecessary crowd build-up. Fans have also been advised to arrive early and make use of public transport to avoid last-minute congestion.

Strict guidelines extend beyond crowd movement. A zero-tolerance policy on drugs and misconduct will be enforced, with intensified checks and surveillance in place. Officials have stressed that this is not routine policing but a carefully curated operational plan shaped by expert recommendations and past learnings.

The stampede in June 2025, which resulted in 11 fatalities and several injuries, prompted a complete overhaul of safety measures. Following investigations, multiple stakeholders, including RCB and local authorities, were held accountable for lapses. Since then, corrective steps have been implemented under judicial and government supervision.

With fresh approvals secured, the stadium is now set to host five matches this season, while two home games have been shifted to Raipur. As cricket returns to Bengaluru, the message is clear — passion for the game must go hand in hand with responsibility, ensuring that every fan enjoys the spectacle safely.
