Shubman Gill has made a confident statement ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 season, asserting that he has nothing left to prove as a batter. The Gujarat Titans skipper, who missed out on selection for the recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, cited his consistency and IPL record as proof of his credentials.

Gill’s numbers over the last few seasons underline his claim. Since 2022, he has amassed a remarkable 2449 runs at an average of 46.2 and a strike rate close to 150—making him the highest run-scorer in the league during this period. The only player who comes close is Virat Kohli, further highlighting Gill’s dominance in the IPL ecosystem.
Addressing the media ahead of the season, Shubman Gill said, “If you look at the past three or four seasons, I have the most runs in IPL. I don’t think I have anything to prove this season.” He added, “The four years that I’ve played for this team, we’ve done decently well, and I’ve done well as a batsman. I don’t need to prove my worth to anyone.”

Despite his IPL success, Gill’s recent T20I journey has been less convincing. He had briefly secured an opening spot ahead of Sanju Samson before the Asia Cup 2025 but failed to cement his place, eventually losing his spot.

While his batting credentials remain strong, the spotlight will firmly be on his leadership this season. Since taking over from Hardik Pandya, GT have struggled to replicate their early success, including their title-winning debut campaign.

However, Gill remains optimistic about the team’s future. “I just need to continue doing what I’ve been doing for the past four years,” he said. He further stated, “As a team, we need to stay consistent. If we do that, sooner or later, we will win the trophy again.”
As IPL 2026 approaches, Gill’s confidence and consistency will be key to Gujarat Titans’ title ambitions.
