The IPL 2026 season kicks off with a blockbuster clash as defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday. With both teams stacked with firepower, fans can expect a high-scoring contest to open the tournament. RCB enter the new season riding high on confidence after finally securing their maiden IPL title. The franchise has retained a stable core, especially in the batting department, which remains their biggest strength.

However, there are slight concerns around their bowling attack, largely due to injuries and limited match practice among key players. On a batting-friendly surface like Bengaluru, that could be an area opposition teams look to exploit.
On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad are keen to bounce back after an underwhelming 2025 campaign. Their approach this season appears aggressive, with a power-packed batting lineup capable of taking the game away from any opponent. Much of their hopes will rest on the form of Ishan Kishan, who steps in with momentum, alongside the explosive opening duo of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head.

The middle order further strengthens SRH’s case, with match-winners like Heinrich Klaasen and Liam Livingstone adding depth and finishing ability. If they click collectively, SRH could pose a serious challenge to the defending champions.
Historically, SRH hold a slight edge in the rivalry, leading 13-11 in 26 encounters, with two matches ending in no result. However, at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB have dominated, winning five out of eight games against Hyderabad. With contrasting strengths and plenty of star power on display, this season opener promises to set the tone for an exciting IPL 2026.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

RCB’s pace leader, Josh Hazlewood, is yet to regain full fitness and may not have enough bowling workload behind him for a high-intensity start. Although RCB have added New Zealand quick Jacob Duffy, his limited match time in the recent World Cup could still be a factor. That could push RCB towards a batting-heavy combination, with extra firepower available through Phil Salt, Jacob Bethell, Tim David, and Romario Shepherd.
The batting core looks strong, with Virat Kohli leading the charge and captain Rajat Patidar set to bat at No. 3. Behind them, RCB’s middle order has real depth thanks to Jitesh Sharma, David, Shepherd and Krunal Pandya. On paper, that gives Bengaluru one of the most dangerous batting line-ups in the tournament.
Probable XI: Phil Salt, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar (c), Jacob Bethell, Venkatesh Iyer, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Tim David, Romario Shepherd, Krunal Pandya, Mangesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Impact Sub – Suyash Sharma.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Meanwhile, SRH appear far more settled in bowling terms. Even with skipper Pat Cummins sidelined through injury, their Indian-heavy attack has enough variety, with England pacer Brydon Carse adding overseas pace support.
Probable XI: Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan (C/WK), Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Liam Livinstone, Aniket Verma, Harsh Dubey, Harshal Patel, Jaydev Unadkat, Brydon Carse. Impact Sub – Zeeshan Ansari.
