Cameron Green, the most expensive overseas signing in IPL history, has found himself at the centre of intense scrutiny in IPL 2026. The Australian all-rounder, bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for a staggering Rs 25.2 crore, did not bowl a single over in their defeat to the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. In a high-scoring clash in which KKR failed to defend 224, his absence with the ball raised serious questions about the team’s strategy and balance.

The debate intensified after the match when KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane was asked about Green’s non-bowling role. He responded candidly, saying, “That question you need to ask Cricket Australia,” hinting that the decision was beyond the franchise’s control.

Cricket Australia soon issued a clarification, shedding light on the situation. A spokesperson stated, “Cameron has a lower back injury which is being managed but requires him to abstain from bowling for a short period.” The statement confirmed that the all-rounder is currently focusing on regaining full fitness.

Providing further clarity, the spokesperson added, “Cameron is currently rebuilding his bowling loads in India with a view to return in around 10-12 days’ time.” It was also confirmed that KKR management was fully aware of his condition before the tournament began.

Green, who batted at No. 3 and scored 18 off 10 balls on debut, had previously featured in the T20 World Cup and domestic cricket purely as a batter. Meanwhile, KKR’s bowling attack struggled, allowing Mumbai Indians to chase down the target comfortably, further amplifying concerns around Green’s limited role.
