For Suryansh Shedge, the journey with Punjab Kings over the past year has been as much about growth as it has been about handling setbacks. A breakout domestic season in 2024 fast-tracked his entry into the IPL, but the heartbreak of losing the 2025 final to Royal Challengers Bengaluru still lingers. Yet, instead of dwelling on that disappointment, the young batter has channelled it into motivation ahead of IPL 2026.

Reflecting on the loss, Suryansh Shedge admitted, “Whenever you lose a final, you’re bound to be disappointed. There were sad faces in the dressing room.” However, he was quick to highlight the positives: “If you look at the tournament overall, we did quite well. That kind of disappointment instils a different fire in you… we’ll go in as a better side this year.”
A key factor behind that optimism is continuity. Punjab Kings have retained a strong core, something Suryansh Shedge deeply values.

“I’ll always be grateful for the faith they’ve shown in me. That kind of trust motivates you to be the best version of yourself,” he said, adding that belief within the squad could be a decisive factor this season.

Having come through Mumbai’s competitive cricket circuit, Suryansh Shedge appreciates the calm leadership of captain Shreyas Iyer. “It’s important to keep the environment the same, regardless of results. He always says effort is in our control,” Shedge explained. He believes Iyer’s mindset fosters consistency and helps players stay grounded, even under pressure.

The influence of head coach Ricky Ponting has also been significant. Suryansh Shedge described Ponting as highly energetic and approachable. “He’s constantly communicating and connecting with players. It didn’t feel like I was meeting him for the first time,” he shared. The alignment between Iyer and Ponting, according to Shedge, has created a positive and focused team culture.

At 23, Suryansh Shedge has already experienced the challenges of limited opportunities, but those moments have shaped his outlook. “Everyone wants to play, but if it’s not in your control, there’s no point dwelling on it,” he said. Instead, he focuses on improving his skills and contributing in any way possible.
As IPL 2026 approaches, Shedge’s mindset reflects maturity beyond his years. With resilience, clarity, and a strong team environment behind him, he represents the new, determined face of Punjab Kings’ title ambitions.
