Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka has urged fans to remain patient following the team’s six-wicket defeat to Delhi Capitals in their Indian Premier League 2026 opener. Chasing momentum early in the tournament, LSG struggled on a tricky Ekana surface and were bowled out for just 141, a total that ultimately proved insufficient.

Despite the disappointing result, Goenka backed captain Rishabh Pant and head coach Justin Langer, emphasising that the team is focused on long-term growth. “This is a long season, and moments like these are part of building something meaningful,” Goenka shared on social media, reinforcing his confidence in the leadership group. His public support came shortly after a widely circulated video showed him in an animated post-match discussion with Pant and Langer, sparking conversations among fans.

While the interaction drew attention, it was far from the controversy seen in IPL 2024 involving former captain KL Rahul. This time, the tone appeared constructive, reflecting a franchise determined to stay composed despite an early setback.

On the field, LSG’s innings never truly gained momentum. An unfortunate run-out saw Pant depart early, leaving the batting unit under pressure. Only Mitchell Marsh (35) and Abdul Samad (36) managed to make notable contributions. Delhi’s bowlers, led by Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan, shared six wickets to keep LSG in check.

In response, DC overcame an early wobble thanks to a composed knock from Sameer Rizvi, whose unbeaten 70 guided the chase. While LSG showed promise with the ball initially, they couldn’t sustain the pressure, slipping to their first defeat of the season.
