Nitish Kumar Reddy delivered a complete all-round performance to power Sunrisers Hyderabad to their first win of IPL 2026, as they outplayed Kolkata Knight Riders by 65 runs at Eden Gardens. In a match that showcased his growing maturity, Reddy’s impactful contribution with both bat and ball underlined why he is being seen as a long-term asset in Indian cricket.

Coming in at a crucial juncture with SRH slightly under pressure at 118/4, Reddy stitched together a vital 82-run partnership with Heinrich Klaasen, who scored a brisk half-century. Reddy’s 39 off just 24 balls ensured Hyderabad maintained momentum and posted a formidable 226/8. His ability to absorb pressure and then accelerate highlighted his evolution as a dependable middle-order batter.

With the ball, Reddy further tilted the game in SRH’s favour. Operating smartly in the middle overs, he returned figures of 2/17 from two overs, including the key wicket of Rinku Singh. His well-disguised, slower delivery once again proved to be a potent weapon.

“I felt the pitch was behaving unpredictably,” Nitish Reddy explained. “Some balls were sticking, while others were coming on quickly. That’s when I decided to use my slower ones more, and it worked.”

Despite the standout performance, Reddy was quick to credit a “specific person” for helping him regain rhythm after a challenging, injury-hit phase. Over the past year, the 22-year-old has battled multiple setbacks, including a neck spasm and a quadriceps injury, which disrupted his progress and limited his opportunities ahead of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

“It’s always been something I wanted to improve—my bowling,” Nitish Reddy said. “But injuries didn’t allow me the time to work on it. Thankfully, I got a week to train with a specific person before the season, and that really helped. Everything he told me is making sense now.” When asked to reveal the identity, Reddy chose to keep it under wraps—for now.

Often compared to Hardik Pandya for his all-round capabilities, Nitish Reddy is steadily building his own identity. This performance was a reminder of his potential to influence games in multiple facets.

He also praised SRH’s tactical awareness, especially the early introduction of spin after pacers proved expensive. The move paid off, reinforcing the importance of adapting to conditions quickly. For Reddy, this outing was more than just a Player-of-the-Match performance—it was a statement of resilience, growth, and a glimpse of what lies ahead.
