Two-time World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh has issued a heartfelt apology to Indian cricket legends Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni, distancing himself from the controversial statements made by his father, Yograj Singh. The former India all-rounder, who played a pivotal role in India’s 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup triumph, made it clear that he does not share those views and has personally addressed the matter with his father.

Speaking during an interview with Sports Tak, Yuvraj Singh said, “I would like to apologise to Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni.” His statement comes in response to Yograj Singh’s repeated allegations against the two iconic captains—remarks that have stirred significant debate within the cricketing fraternity.

Yograj Singh, who represented India in one Test, had earlier made serious claims involving Kapil Dev in alleged match-fixing controversies.

“Ask all the journalists, where is the file of match-lying in the Supreme Court shut down,” Yograj said in an interview. “Who all were involved in match-fixing? First, Kapil Dev’s name was involved, then Azharuddin’s, and a lot of other players.”

He further questioned the closure of such cases, adding, “Why was that file closed and not reopened? Because a lot of the heads of legends will roll.” These remarks have drawn criticism, given the lack of substantiated evidence and the sensitive nature of such allegations.

In another explosive interview, Yograj Singh recounted a deeply personal and controversial incident involving Kapil Dev. “When Kapil Dev became captain of India, North Zone, and Haryana, he dropped me for no reason,” he claimed. He went on to describe an extreme moment from his past, saying, “I took my pistol out and went to Kapil’s house in Sector 9. He came out with his mother. I abused him a dozen times.”

Yograj Singh added, “I told him, ‘I want to put a bullet through your head, but I am not doing it because you have a very pious mother.’” The shocking nature of these statements has once again put the spotlight on his long-standing grievances.

While Yograj has acknowledged MS Dhoni’s stature in Indian cricket, he has also accused him of cutting short Yuvraj’s international career.

“I won’t forgive MS Dhoni,” he said. “He is a very prominent cricketer; I salute him. But what he did to my son is unforgivable.” Amid the controversy, Yuvraj Singh’s measured response stands out, reflecting his intent to maintain respect for the game’s stalwarts while separating his own views from his father’s strong and contentious opinions.
