Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill is likely to return for their upcoming IPL 2026 clash against Delhi Capitals on April 8, providing a major boost to a side that has struggled for consistency early in the season. The opener missed the game against the Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad due to a neck issue, bringing an end to his impressive run of 61 consecutive matches for the franchise since 2022.

Gill was seen wearing a bandage around his neck ahead of the match, indicating discomfort possibly linked to a previous injury. In his absence, Kumar Kushagra was handed a debut opportunity at the top. While he managed 18 off 14 balls, the Gujarat Titans eventually fell short in a challenging 211-run chase, losing by six runs.
Providing an update during the game, batting coach Parthiv Patel said, “Obviously, he had a neck sprain before, and he had a spasm a couple of days back.” He added, “Hoping he’s fit for the coming game. It doesn’t look that serious.”

Patel also mentioned, “Injury management is not my forte, but I can definitely tell you that he should be fine.” Stand-in captain Rashid Khan echoed similar optimism after the match, stating that Gill would “hopefully be back for the next game.”

Gujarat’s over-reliance on their top order was once again exposed. Sai Sudharsan led the charge with a fluent 73 off 44 balls, but the middle order faltered under pressure, contributing just 30 runs collectively.

A late fightback from Rashid Khan and Kagiso Rabada, who stitched a crucial 43-run stand, briefly revived hopes. However, needing 11 runs in the final over, GT were denied by Tushar Deshpande’s pinpoint yorkers. With two losses on the trot, Gujarat Titans will be banking on Gill’s return to bring stability and direction to their campaign.
