It was an entertaining phase of play at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium as Royal Challengers Bengaluru continued their aggressive approach against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026. However, just when the hosts looked set for a massive finish, Jamie Overton produced a crucial breakthrough to halt the momentum.

Jamie Overton cleaned up Devdutt Padikkal

Devdutt Padikkal was the standout performer for RCB, playing yet another impactful knock at the top. Carrying his rich domestic form into the tournament, the left-hander looked in complete control, bringing up a fluent half-century off just 29 balls. His innings was laced with five boundaries and two sixes, keeping the pressure firmly on the CSK bowlers.

But T20 cricket often turns on moments of execution, and Overton delivered exactly that. Opting for a fuller length, the CSK all-rounder forced Padikkal into an ambitious stroke. The batter attempted a lap shot after creating room, but in doing so, exposed his stumps a little too much.

Jamie Overton needed no second invitation. The ball sneaked through and crashed into the leg stump, bringing an end to a well-compiled innings. It was a timely strike for CSK, especially with RCB accelerating towards the death overs.

Padikkal’s dismissal, with RCB at 151/3 in 14.1 overs, briefly shifted the momentum back in CSK’s favour. While the left-hander had already laid a strong platform, his wicket ensured the visitors stayed in the contest. On a batting-friendly surface, moments like these often define the final outcome—and Overton’s breakthrough could prove to be one of them.
