The incident began when the victim came across an Instagram post advertising tickets for the Indian Premier League. The accused lured him with attractive offers, including match tickets bundled with food coupons and so-called VIP benefits, creating a sense of urgency and exclusivity.

Initially, the victim agreed to purchase two tickets priced at ₹3,700 each. However, the scam escalated quickly as the fraudster demanded additional payments under multiple pretexts, including refundable security deposits, extra ID cards for friends, and meal packages. Trusting the claims, the victim continued transferring money in several transactions.

After exhausting his personal transaction limit, he even used his mother’s bank account to complete the payments, eventually losing a total of ₹1.46 lakh. To make the scheme appear legitimate, the accused sent a fake email confirmation and instructed the victim to collect the tickets near Gate 10 of the stadium, assuring quick delivery.

Despite repeated follow-ups, no tickets were delivered. Instead, the fraudster kept asking for more money, raising suspicion. Realising he had been cheated, the victim contacted the cyber control room and filed an official complaint with the Mahadevapura Police.

Police have urged fans to purchase tickets only through official sources, avoid suspicious links, and verify sellers before making payments.
