Steven Smith is making a strong impression in his maiden Pakistan Super League stint, with the Australia batting star finding useful rhythm for Multan Sultans in PSL 2026. Smith has already scored 144 runs in five innings, including a half-century, and his composed batting has added stability to a side that looks increasingly dangerous in the tournament.

Multan Sultans have also benefited from a healthy Australian presence in the squad. Along with Steve Smith, the group includes captain Ashton Turner, veteran pacer Peter Siddle, and wicketkeeper-batters Josh Philippe and Lachlan Shaw. That blend of experience and familiarity has helped the Sultans settle quickly, and their latest result was further proof of their growing momentum.

On Monday, Multan crushed Rawalpindiz by seven wickets to move to the top of the PSL 2026 points table. Chasing 183, opener Sahibzada Farhan set the tone with a rapid 68 off 38 balls, while Philippe played the perfect supporting role with a fluent 56 off 30 deliveries. Their partnership ensured the chase never slipped out of control.

Steve Smith also caught attention off the field with his trademark humour during a broadcast interaction. He jokingly introduced Peter Siddle as “Chacha,” a nickname the pacer seems to have embraced. Siddle even referred to himself as “Foreign Chacha,” while Pakistan’s Iftikhar Ahmed was called “Local Chacha.” The nickname reportedly came from Haris Rauf during their Big Bash League days.

Smith later praised his partnership with Farhan, saying the two have developed strong chemistry at the top. Siddle, meanwhile, hailed his former Australia captain for another polished innings and said Smith “never disappoints.” With four wins from five matches, Multan Sultans will now return to action against Peshawar Zalmi after a six-day break.
