Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill is set to return for their crucial IPL 2026 clash against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, putting an end to speculation around his availability. Gill had missed the previous fixture due to a muscle spasm, raising concerns within the GT camp ahead of a key phase in the tournament.

In his absence, the Gujarat Titans suffered a narrow defeat against the Rajasthan Royals, highlighting the importance of their skipper at the top of the order. The team reshuffled their opening combination, pairing Sai Sudharsan with young Kumar Kushagra. While Sudharsan continued his fine form, Kushagra struggled to make an impact, managing just 18 off 14 balls.

Providing clarity ahead of the Delhi clash, Sudharsan confirmed Gill’s return during the pre-match press conference. “Shubman is coming along well. He’ll be playing tomorrow,” he said, offering a timely boost for the Titans.

Gill was seen wearing bandages around his shoulder and neck during the previous game, a precaution related to recurring neck spasms he has experienced since the 2025–26 home season. The franchise had opted to rest him to avoid aggravating the issue, a decision that now appears to have paid off.

With Gill likely to slot back into the XI, Kushagra is expected to make way, restoring stability to the opening pair. However, GT’s bigger concern lies in their middle order, which failed to deliver under pressure against Rajasthan.

Chasing 210, Sudharsan led the charge with a well-crafted 73 off 44 balls, keeping GT firmly in the hunt. But the lack of support from the middle order proved costly. Jos Buttler contributed 26, while the likes of Glenn Phillips, Washington Sundar and Rahul Tewatia couldn’t capitalise on the platform.

Despite finishing at 204, Gujarat fell short by six runs in what was a tightly contested game. As they prepare to face Delhi Capitals, the Titans will not only be boosted by Gill’s return but will also look for a more cohesive batting effort, particularly from their middle-order unit, to regain momentum in IPL 2026.
