With DC needing just two runs to win, Miller chose not to take a single off the penultimate delivery and instead backed himself to finish the chase.
That decision backfired when Kuldeep Yadav was run out on the last ball, handing GT a thrilling victory and ending Delhi’s unbeaten start to the season. Delhi Capitals had opened their campaign with wins over Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians, making this defeat all the more painful.
On Thursday morning, the franchise shared a short video showing Miller sitting quietly and processing the result before head coach Hemang Badani stepped in to comfort him. DC captain Axar Patel and South African teammate Kagiso Rabada also offered support after the heartbreaking finish.

The call sparked debate, but Sunil Gavaskar came out in Miller’s defence, saying the batter was simply backing his own ability. Gavaskar also praised Prasidh Krishna for producing the decisive final-ball delivery under pressure.

“Yes, he was backing himself to hit the winning runs, but having seen the way Kuldeep Yadav nudged that ball for a single off the first ball maybe he should have given Kuldeep the strike,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports. “He should have given the strike. This is all being wise after the event, but the fact remains that the way he had been hitting the previous over and that over as well, he believed that he could do it, simple as that. So you can’t fault him for that. He had the confidence that he could do it, but it didn’t come off because the ball that Prasid Krishna bowled was an absolutely superb delivery.”

David Miller had earlier kept DC in the hunt with a superb unbeaten 41 off 20, while KL Rahul’s fluent 92 laid the foundation in the chase of 211. Delhi ultimately finished on 209/8 and will now look to regroup before facing Chennai Super Kings on Saturday.
