In the recent IPL clash between Gujarat Lions and Delhi Daredevils in Kanpur, the Delhi team chased down the huge target of 195 runs without a cringe on their forehead. Batsmen like Shreyas Iyer and Karun Nair played some impactful innings, but it was the leg-spinner, Amit Mishra who finished the match with two consecutive boundaries.
Gujarat Lions bowling attack which comprises of players like Basil Thampi, Ravindra Jadeja, and James Faulkner couldn’t believe on their defeat. The match was contested on May 10 at the Green Park stadium Kanpur. Some of the rumors came out after the match that it was fixed, but the BCCI clarified that attempts were made to fix the game but all were restrained.
As per the reports, soon after the match got concluded, three bookies were arrested from the same hotel where both the teams were staying. Well, they were busted with a cash of more than INR 40 lakhs and five mobile phones.
According to the reports, the three arrested men are named as Ramesh Nayan Shah, a businessman from Thane, and local inhabitants Ramesh Kumar and Vikas Kumar. Ramesh had a contract to put hoardings at the Green Park stadium and he booked the room for Shah in the hotel, who was in touch with a bookie from Ajmer named Bunty. The raids are also going on in Ajmer to arrest the bookie.
However, during the inquiry, Shah alleged that two Gujarat Lions cricketers were in touch with a bookie and were following directions. One of his WhatsApp messages revealed that GL needed to lose the match despite having a big score of almost 200 runs. And that is what exactly happened. But now the BCCI is crushing all reports of the thrilling clash being fixed, as according to the Indian board, efforts were made to fix the match but it was hindered by the Anti-Corruption unit.
After considering those accusations made by Shah on the two Gujarat Lions cricketer, the BCCI should dig into the matter further. After all, there is no smoke without fire.
