Rajasthan Royals struck at a crucial moment to halt Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s late surge in their IPL 2026 clash at the Barsapara Stadium, Guwahati. Just when RCB looked set to finish strongly, experienced seamer Sandeep Sharma delivered a timely breakthrough by dismissing captain Rajat Patidar.

Patidar had been the backbone of RCB’s innings after early setbacks, holding the middle order together with a well-constructed 63 off 40 balls. Following the dismissals of Phil Salt, Devdutt Padikkal, and Virat Kohli inside the powerplay, Patidar’s role became even more important. He not only stabilised the innings but also looked ready to accelerate in the death overs and push RCB towards a competitive total.

However, Sandeep Sharma once again proved why he remains a reliable option in pressure situations. In the closing stages of the innings, he executed a clever variation — a full-length leg cutter — to outfox the RCB skipper. Patidar attempted to clear his front leg and go for a big hit towards the leg side, aiming to maximise the scoring opportunity.

While he managed to get elevation, the timing wasn’t quite right. The ball lacked the required distance and hung in the air. Positioned perfectly at deep mid-wicket, Donovan Ferreira completed a safe catch to send Patidar back to the pavilion.

The dismissal came at a decisive phase of the innings, stopping RCB’s momentum just when they were looking to accelerate. Sandeep’s breakthrough not only removed a well-set batter but also ensured Rajasthan Royals maintained control heading into the final overs, reinforcing their dominance in the contest.
