Delhi Capitals batter Nitish Rana has been fined 25 percent of his match fee following an on-field altercation with the fourth umpire during their IPL 2026 clash against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The incident unfolded in the 19th over of Delhi’s chase, shortly after Tristan Stubbs was denied permission to change his gloves despite visibly struggling with sweat due to Chennai’s humid conditions.

The refusal sparked frustration in the DC camp, eventually leading to Rana confronting the fourth umpire after Stubbs’ dismissal. In an official statement, the IPL confirmed that Rana was penalised for breaching Level 1 of the Code of Conduct. He was also handed one demerit point under Article 2.3, which relates to the use of inappropriate or abusive language during a match.

The batter accepted the sanction imposed by the match referee. The situation escalated moments after the dispute when Stubbs attempted an aggressive shot against Jamie Overton, only to be caught by Noor Ahmad. Clearly frustrated, Stubbs walked off in disappointment, tossing his bat and gloves on his way back to the dressing room.

Meanwhile, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was also penalised, though for a different reason. He was fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate — the team’s first offence of the season under IPL regulations.

On the field, CSK secured their first win of IPL 2026 with a 23-run victory over Delhi Capitals, successfully defending a total of 212. The result marked an important turnaround for Chennai after a sluggish start to their campaign.

CSK will now look to build on this momentum as they prepare to face Kolkata Knight Riders in their next fixture, while Delhi Capitals will aim to regroup after a match that was as much about off-field drama as it was about on-field action.
