Gujarat Titans once again leaned on their captain Shubman Gill as they continued their strong run in IPL 2026, chasing down Lucknow Super Giants with a composed and calculated batting display at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. After a nervy win against Delhi Capitals in their previous outing, GT carried forward that momentum with another clinical performance.

Shubman Gill smashed a no-look six

Gill, who had already shown signs of form earlier in the tournament, looked assured from the outset. While Gujarat started cautiously, managing just 25 runs in the first four overs, the key was their ability to preserve wickets. That approach allowed them to build a solid platform, forcing LSG captain Rishabh Pant to extend Mohammed Shami’s spell inside the powerplay.

What followed was a momentum-shifting over that defined the chase. Gill first flicked a delivery off his pads for a boundary before producing the standout moment of the innings—a stunning no-look six straight down the ground. It was a shot that highlighted both his confidence and timing, especially against a bowler of Shami’s calibre. Gill capped off the over with back-to-back boundaries, collecting 20 runs and putting Gujarat firmly in control.

The Punjab-born batter continued to anchor the innings, bringing up a well-paced 56 off 40 balls, laced with six boundaries and a six. During his knock, he also became the youngest player to cross the 4000-run milestone in IPL history—another feather in his already impressive cap.

At the other end, Jos Buttler provided strong support, rediscovering his rhythm after a quiet T20 World Cup campaign. The wicketkeeper-batter not only registered a crucial half-century but also reached the milestone of 14,000 T20 runs, underlining his consistency in the format.

Earlier, Lucknow Super Giants struggled to build momentum with the bat. Despite several starts from their top order, none of the batters converted them into significant scores, leading to a below-par total. Their middle overs proved particularly costly, as the innings lost direction at a crucial stage.
