Rajasthan Royals have been one of the standout teams in IPL 2026, remaining unbeaten alongside Punjab Kings. However, while their on-field performances have impressed, the franchise has found itself in the middle of an off-field controversy involving team manager Romi Bhinder. The issue surfaced after a viral video showed Bhinder allegedly using a mobile phone in the dugout during the Rajasthan Royals’ clash against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Guwahati.

The incident quickly caught the BCCI’s attention, prompting swift action. The board has now issued a show-cause notice to Bhinder, asking him to explain his actions within 48 hours. The matter is currently under investigation by the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU), and a final decision will be taken only after their report is submitted.
IPL chairman Arun Dhumal confirmed that the board is treating the matter seriously, while also clarifying the existing guidelines.

“We have asked the ACSU to investigate the matter. The manager is allowed to have a mobile, but not in the dugout,” Arun Dhumal said. “You can use the mobile as an emergency measure or in case of a medical emergency. The matter will be dealt with the seriousness it deserves, as all teams must follow the rules.”

As per IPL protocols under the Players Match Officials Area (PMOA), the use of mobile phones and electronic communication devices is strictly restricted. Team managers are permitted to use phones inside the dressing room, but not in the dugout during live matches. Players, support staff, and even accredited personnel are required to deposit their devices with the security liaison officer before entering restricted zones.

Interestingly, reports have also highlighted that Bhinder recently went through a serious health scare, with both his lungs collapsing. He reportedly spent nearly a month in a Nagpur hospital, including time in the ICU on ventilator support. While this context may be taken into consideration, the rule breach remains under scrutiny.
With the investigation underway, all eyes are now on Bhinder’s response. The BCCI is expected to take a call in the coming days, reinforcing its zero-tolerance stance on protocol violations in the IPL.
