Sunil Narine once again showcased his mastery with the ball, delivering a moment of brilliance to dismiss Sarfaraz Khan during Kolkata Knight Riders’ IPL 2026 clash against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 14. After being put in to bat, CSK found themselves in a decent position at 111/3 in 11.2 overs when Sarfaraz walked in at No. 5.

With a platform already set, the expectation was for the right-hander to accelerate in the middle overs. However, his innings never quite took off, as he struggled to find rhythm against KKR’s disciplined bowling attack.

Sarfaraz managed a cautious 23 off 18 deliveries before falling to Narine in the 17th over. The veteran spinner produced a clever variation, delivering a knuckleball on a good length. Attempting to flick it through the leg side, Sarfaraz was completely deceived by the subtle movement off the pitch. The ball drifted away just enough to beat his bat and crashed into the off stump, ending his stay in emphatic fashion.

Despite the dismissal, Sarfaraz has shown promising form this season, scoring 122 runs in four innings at an impressive strike rate of over 180. His return to the IPL after going unsold for two seasons has been one of the quieter positives for CSK.

Earlier in the innings, Chennai had suffered an early setback with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad departing cheaply. However, Sanju Samson and Ayush Mhatre steadied the ship with an aggressive 47-run stand off just 22 balls. Samson led the charge with a fluent 48 off 32 balls, while Mhatre contributed a quickfire 38 off 17. Dewald Brevis also added valuable runs with a composed 41.

CSK eventually posted a competitive 192/5 in their 20 overs, a total built on strong contributions across the batting order.

For KKR, Narine was the standout performer with figures of 4-0-21-1, while Kartik Tyagi chipped in with two crucial wickets. Despite the effort, KKR continue to search for their first win of the season, while CSK aim to build momentum after a mixed start to IPL 2026.
