Recent reports around Vinod Kambli’s health have sparked concern among fans, but his family has now stepped in to set the record straight. His wife, Andrea Hewitt, has firmly dismissed claims suggesting that the former India batter is battling serious medical issues, insisting that he is “fine” and recovering well.

“By God’s grace, Vinod is fine. I don’t know who is spreading false information about his health,” she said, putting to rest rumours that had been circulating widely. Earlier reports had suggested that Vinod Kambli was dealing with a brain clot following his hospitalisation over a year ago, with claims that it was affecting his memory.

These concerns were initially raised by his close friend Marcus Couto, a former first-class umpire, who shared details about Kambli’s condition and lifestyle changes.

“Ever since he was hospitalised in Thane about 18 months ago, Kambli has had a clot in his brain. His memory is not good. He remembers things and then forgets about them. That’s all due to that clot in his brain,” Couto had said. “Kambli has given up drinking, but he tends to smoke at times. Smoking is completely forbidden for him, because it puts him at risk of a brain stroke,” he added, referencing medical advice from his treating specialist.

Despite the concerns, Couto also offered a more optimistic update, revealing that Vinod Kambli recently appeared for an advertisement shoot and seemed to be in stable condition.

“He seemed to be in decent health. He and his family were in good spirits. Kambli now uses a stick to walk around,” he noted. “He has also been focusing on family, with his son Cristiano showing interest in cricket.”

Kambli’s health has been under scrutiny since December 2024, when he was admitted to a Mumbai hospital with a severe urinary infection. At the time, he had expressed gratitude toward his doctors and vowed to follow medical advice closely.

Once hailed as one of India’s brightest cricketing talents, Kambli’s career was filled with promise but cut short far too early. Despite early success at the international level, his journey ended at just 28, followed by multiple health challenges, including heart issues that required surgery in 2013.

For now, his family’s reassurance offers relief to fans hoping to see him stable and well.
