Rajasthan Royals team manager Romi Bhinder is unlikely to face a harsh penalty after being seen using a mobile phone in the dugout during the IPL 2026 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The incident technically breached the BCCI’s Minimum Standards for Players and Match Officials Areas (PMOA), which allows mobile phone use only to select officials and restricts team managers to the dressing room.

What made the moment stand out even more was the presence of 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi beside him, with the youngster also appearing to look at the phone screen. The scene quickly drew attention and sparked questions over whether the Royals had violated protocol during the high-profile match.

However, according to a Cricbuzz report, Bhinder is expected to escape major punishment. The BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) is likely to take a lenient view of the matter, especially after considering his health condition. At most, he may receive a warning or a fine rather than a ban.

A BCCI source told the publication that the issue does not appear to be a serious violation on the surface, particularly because Bhinder has documented medical concerns. The ACSU has already issued a show-cause notice to the Rajasthan Royals manager, and he reportedly submitted his medical records within the 48-hour deadline as part of his explanation.

Bhinder is said to have kept the phone with him as a precaution in case of a medical emergency. His health history includes severe lung complications, and a source cited by The New Indian Express claimed that both his lungs had collapsed in the past, forcing him to spend nearly a month in a Nagpur hospital and almost a week on a ventilator.

Another source added that Bhinder has lost more than 10 kilos due to medical issues and also suffers from asthma, which limits his movement. While he is aware of the rules and regulations, the phone was reportedly kept for health-related reasons rather than any suspicious purpose.

The final call now rests with the ACSU, but Rajasthan Royals appear to be hoping the matter ends with a warning rather than a heavier sanction.
