Punjab Kings produced a commanding all-round performance at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, outclassing Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets and chasing down 196 with 21 balls to spare. The chase was built on authoritative half-centuries from Prabhsimran Singh and skipper Shreyas Iyer, who kept Punjab on track from the moment they lost two early wickets.

The victory helped PBKS stay unbeaten in the IPL 2026 season, with four wins and one tied game from their first five outings. For Shreyas Iyer, who guided Punjab to last year’s final before falling short at the last hurdle, the start to this campaign has only strengthened belief that the side can go one step further and finally lift their maiden IPL title.
Speaking after the match, Shreyas Iyer sounded confident but grounded. He credited the group effort behind the result and stressed that Punjab are approaching every game with the same clarity and intensity.

“Confident and optimistic going forward. We’ve been playing phenomenally. We know each game is important, it’s a collective effort, glad to have a comprehensive win,” he said.
Shreyas also reserved special praise for Prabhsimran Singh, who continued his excellent form with an unbeaten 80. The Punjab captain feels the young opener has added maturity to his natural attacking game.

“Prabhsimran has raised his bar, considering the last season, where he swung wild, got runs and gave excellent starts. Now he’s got maturity and finishing off games. He’s maturing with each game,” he noted.
The skipper had earlier produced one of the standout moments in the field, pulling off a superb catch to dismiss Hardik Pandya. In a light-hearted remark, Shreyas Iyer joked that his grab helped swing the match Punjab’s way. He also pointed to the team’s growing habit of closing out games strongly, adding that the players are staying present, backing their skills, and improving with every outing.

Chasing 196, Punjab were briefly tested after Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly departed early, but Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran steadied the innings with a match-defining 139-run stand. Shreyas was dismissed for 66 by Shardul Thakur, while Prabhsimran carried his bat. Marcus Stoinis chipped in with an unbeaten 10 as PBKS sealed the win in dominant style.
