Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Ajinkya Rahane led from the front in the field with a sharp catch to dismiss Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal during their IPL 2026 clash at Eden Gardens on April 19. At 37, Rahane showcased excellent reflexes and awareness, moving swiftly to his right before diving low to complete a clean take at extra cover. The dismissal came at a crucial stage, with Rajasthan losing their third wicket for 99.

The breakthrough arrived in the 12th over, courtesy of Sunil Narine’s clever change of pace. Bowling slightly outside off, Narine forced Jaiswal to stretch and manufacture a lofted shot. The left-hander failed to keep it down, and Rahane made no mistake, grabbing a well-judged catch to end a promising innings. Jaiswal departed after scoring 39 off 29 deliveries, an effort that included two sixes and four boundaries.

Jaiswal has been one of Rajasthan Royals’ most consistent performers this season, amassing 223 runs in six innings at a strike rate above 150, including two half-centuries. His early partnership with Vaibhav Suryavanshi once again gave RR a flying start. The duo stitched together an 81-run opening stand, putting KKR’s bowling unit under pressure in the powerplay.

However, Kolkata Knight Riders fought back strongly through their spin duo. Varun Chakravarthy removed the dangerous Suryavanshi for a brisk 46 off 28 balls, while Narine’s dismissal of Jaiswal further dented RR’s momentum. From a commanding position, the Royals struggled to maintain the scoring rate as wickets fell at regular intervals.

The middle order failed to capitalise on the strong platform. Batters like Shimron Hetmyer and Donovan Ferreira couldn’t convert starts into impactful contributions, resulting in Rajasthan Royals finishing at a modest 155 in their 20 overs. Chakravarthy stood out as the pick of the bowlers, claiming three key wickets and applying consistent pressure.

For KKR, this fightback was a much-needed boost in a challenging campaign. Under Rahane’s leadership, they are still searching for their first win of the season, having lost five of their six matches, with one game abandoned due to rain. In contrast, Rajasthan Royals have enjoyed a strong run, winning four of their first five matches despite a recent setback against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
