Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz is currently under investigation by the Pakistan Cricket Board after reportedly testing positive for recreational drug use, a development that has cast uncertainty over his immediate cricketing future. The issue has already had a direct impact on his career plans, with his proposed stint with Surrey County Cricket Club for the T20 Blast now officially called off.

According to reports, the sample in question was collected during the recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Nawaz featured in all seven matches for Pakistan during the tournament in Sri Lanka, contributing both with bat and ball.
While Pakistan’s campaign ended at the Super Eight stage, the left-arm spinner managed seven wickets and chipped in with useful lower-order runs. The matter came to light after the International Cricket Council informed the PCB about the positive test. The board has since initiated its formal review process.

Before this setback, Nawaz had secured a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the PCB to participate in England’s T20 Blast, scheduled between May and July. Surrey were expected to confirm his signing, but the ongoing investigation has forced both parties to withdraw from the agreement. The English county has yet to release an official statement regarding a replacement.

Despite the off-field uncertainty, Nawaz remains involved in the ongoing Pakistan Super League, representing Multan Sultans. He recently featured in their six-wicket win over Rawalpindi, although he went wicketless in his spell. The Sultans remain in strong contention this season, sitting second on the points table with six wins from eight matches.
At this stage, the ICC has refrained from further comment, and the final outcome of the investigation remains pending. As the process unfolds, Nawaz’s short-term international and franchise commitments remain in the balance.
