The Lucknow Super Giants are beginning to lose their grip on IPL 2026 as the tournament approaches its halfway mark. After an inconsistent start, the side led by Rishabh Pant showed brief signs of recovery with consecutive wins. However, that momentum has quickly evaporated, with LSG now stuck in a worrying four-match losing streak that has pushed them down to ninth on the points table.

Their latest setback came against the Rajasthan Royals, where a below-par batting performance cost them dearly. Chasing a modest target of 160 at home, LSG appeared in control early, especially after their bowlers did well to restrict RR to a manageable total.

But what followed was a dramatic collapse. The hosts were bowled out for just 119 in 18 overs, handing Rajasthan a comfortable 40-run victory. Speaking after the match, Rishabh Pant admitted that the batting unit let the team down, failing to capitalise on the solid groundwork laid by the bowlers.

It’s been a recurring theme this season, with LSG struggling to find consistency with the bat during crucial chases. Amid the defeat, team owner Sanjiv Goenka once again drew attention.

Known for his animated post-match discussions, Goenka’s interaction this time reflected concern rather than frustration. He was seen checking on Pant after the wicketkeeper-batter took a blow to the face while attempting to gather a throw during the RR innings. The incident briefly halted play, with Pant receiving on-field medical attention.

This ongoing slump raises deeper concerns for LSG, especially considering their recent history. After making the playoffs in their first two IPL seasons, the franchise has struggled to maintain consistency. Their decision to move on from former captain KL Rahul after a disappointing 2024 campaign signalled a fresh start, but results haven’t improved significantly.

With just two wins in seven matches, LSG are running out of time to revive their campaign. Another defeat could severely dent their playoff hopes as they prepare to face the Kolkata Knight Riders in a must-win encounter.
