How often do you see a bowler pick up three wickets in the very first over of an IPL match? Until IPL 2026, it had never happened. Then came Praful Hinge, who scripted history for Sunrisers Hyderabad with a sensational opening burst against Rajasthan Royals. The moment instantly went viral, turning him into a talking point across the cricketing world. But behind that overnight fame lies a journey built on resilience, setbacks, and quiet perseverance.

Not long ago, Hinge was battling a phase that could have easily derailed his career. In 2022, a stress fracture brought everything to a standstill. For a young fast bowler still carving his path, it was a period filled with uncertainty and frustration. “I had a complete stress fracture, and for a while I didn’t know what to do. I was completely blind. I couldn’t play, travel, or even move freely,” Hinge recalled during a media interaction.
Instead of letting the setback consume him, he chose acceptance — a decision that proved pivotal in shaping his comeback. That turning point came with guidance from Varun Aaron, someone who had walked a similar path. Aaron’s reassurance helped Hinge understand that injuries are part and parcel of a fast bowler’s journey, not the end of it.

“Varun Aaron told me that even they had faced such injuries multiple times and that this phase would pass. That gave me confidence,” Praul Hinge said. With clarity came purpose. Rehabilitation turned into preparation, and training became his biggest ally. Time spent at the MRF Pace Foundation allowed him to measure himself against other emerging pacers, while exposure to Australian conditions refined his adaptability. “At MRF, I understood where I stand and what I need to improve. Going to Australia helped me learn how to adjust to different pitches,” he explained.
Those experiences shaped not just his skillset but also his mindset. Despite limited T20 exposure — just a solitary game for Vidarbha before the IPL — Hinge entered the league with a solid red-ball foundation. His first-class numbers reflect discipline and control, traits that translated beautifully into the shortest format.

“In red-ball cricket, you learn patience and consistency. I tried to follow the same basics with the new ball here,” he noted. That approach paid off instantly. Even in high-pressure situations, Hinge keeps his thinking simple. Preparation, he believes, is the key to handling the chaos of match day. “If you work hard in training, matches become easier. Even if you get hit, you have to believe you can come back stronger,” he said.
Beyond cricket, his grounding comes from family. Watching his father’s daily routine and his sister’s dedication to studies instilled a strong work ethic early on. It’s this quiet discipline that continues to drive him forward. Despite the sudden spotlight, Hinge remains unfazed. His focus is firmly on consistency and team success rather than individual hype.

“The ultimate goal is to win the trophy. We’re taking it one match at a time and focusing on contributing as a team,” he said. From playing tennis-ball cricket as a teenager to making IPL history, Hinge’s journey is a reminder that success rarely comes overnight. It’s built through patience, setbacks, and unwavering belief. “I see this as just the beginning. Fame comes and goes, but the focus is on working hard,” he signed off.
And if his debut is anything to go by, this is only the start of something special.
