Australia’s premier fast bowler, Mitchell Starc, has officially joined the Delhi Capitals camp for IPL 2026, offering a timely boost to the franchise. However, fans may need to be patient before seeing him back in match action. The left-arm pacer, who had been recovering from shoulder and elbow injuries, arrived in India on April 25 after completing his rehabilitation in Australia.

Despite linking up with the squad, Starc is unlikely to feature in Delhi’s immediate fixtures against the Punjab Kings and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The team management is expected to take a cautious approach, gradually reintegrating him into competitive cricket. As things stand, a potential return is being targeted for May 1, when Delhi face Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

The 35-year-old has arrived slightly ahead of schedule, giving himself time to adapt to Indian conditions and regain match rhythm through training sessions. A similar roadmap was recently followed by Pat Cummins, who rejoined Sunrisers Hyderabad before making his return to the playing XI.

Delhi Capitals’ IPL 2026 campaign has been inconsistent so far, with three wins and three losses placing them mid-table. Skipper Axar Patel will be keen to find stability as the tournament enters a crucial phase. Senior batter KL Rahul showed promising signs of form in the previous game and remains central to Delhi’s batting plans.

Starc’s return could significantly strengthen Delhi’s bowling unit. In IPL 2025, he was one of their standout performers, picking up 14 wickets in 11 matches, including a memorable five-wicket haul. His experience and ability to strike early could prove vital as DC push for a playoff spot.
