Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant has called for a reset after his side suffered a heartbreaking Super Over defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their IPL 2026 clash on Sunday. Pant admitted the dressing room needs to simplify its approach after another disappointing result in what has become a difficult stretch for the franchise.

“Too many minds doesn’t make it easy on the ground,” Rishabh Pant said after the match. The defeat was LSG’s fifth in a row and left them rooted to the bottom of the IPL 2026 points table with six losses in eight games.

Despite having KKR under pressure at 93/7, LSG allowed Rinku Singh to flip the contest on its head with a brilliant unbeaten 83. Chasing 156, LSG kept themselves alive through a last-ball six from Mohammed Shami, which took the match into a Super Over. But the pressure only intensified from there.

LSG could manage just 1/2 in the tie-breaker, the lowest Super Over total in IPL history, after Sunil Narine removed Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram in quick succession. KKR then finished the job by winning off the very first delivery of their chase. Pant felt his side now needs a break more than anything else. “

We definitely need a break; I think we are going to get refresh. There is always pressure and it is going to be (a) pressure game always, but at the same time, we have to look for answers inside, not outside, and just keep it simple,” he said.

He also stressed that responsibility must be shared by the entire unit, not just a few individuals. “Just take accountability, each and every guy; it can’t be about one or two guys. It has to be about the whole unit and a lot of people will take accountability for that for sure,” Pant added.

Explaining the decision to back Nicholas Pooran in the Super Over despite his poor form, Pant said the call was made collectively. “We had a discussion as a group, and the name that came up was that of Nicholas Pooran’s (for Super Over). He might not go through the best form of his life, but at the same time, you will trust your player in a hard situation like this,” he said.

Pant concluded on an optimistic note, insisting that the break could help LSG turn things around. “There might not be enough positives right now, but I think after the break, there will be a lot of positives for sure,” he added.
