Yuzvendra Chahal, the highest wicket-taker in IPL history, grabbed attention off the field with a light-hearted yet intriguing request ahead of Punjab Kings’ IPL 2026 clash against Rajasthan Royals in New Chandigarh. Known primarily for his leg-spin wizardry, Chahal surprised fans by expressing his desire to open the batting—something rarely associated with his role.

Responding to a post by PBKS co-owner Preity Zinta on X, Yuzvendra Chahal wrote, “Mam ek match mein open batting karne ka chance mil jaaye toh,” a comment that quickly went viral across social media platforms. Fans loved the playful nature of the request, and it didn’t take long for Zinta to respond in equally entertaining fashion.

“For sure Yuzi. Anything for you. IPL khatam hone do, uske baad whichever match you like. I’m sure Prabh & Priyansh won’t mind then,” Zinta replied, referencing current openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya, both of whom have been in outstanding form this season.

The duo has been instrumental at the top of the order for PBKS in IPL 2026. In their previous outing against Delhi Capitals, they stitched together a stunning 126-run opening partnership in just 6.5 overs, setting the tone for a commanding performance. Prabhsimran has been particularly impressive, scoring 287 runs in seven matches at a blistering strike rate of over 190, while Priyansh has contributed 254 runs in six matches with an astonishing strike rate nearing 250.
