Rajasthan Royals handed Punjab Kings their first defeat of IPL 2026 with a commanding six-wicket win at the PCA Stadium in Mullanpur, successfully chasing down a daunting 223-run target. Despite PBKS posting a formidable 222/4 on the back of half-centuries from Prabhsimran Singh and Marcus Stoinis, Rajasthan’s composed yet aggressive chase, led by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Donovan Ferreira, proved decisive.

Punjab skipper Shreyas Iyer chose to focus on the learnings rather than the setback, highlighting execution as the key differentiator in modern T20 cricket. “It was an exceptional performance on a tacky surface. It was difficult to score off the spinners and we fell short with our bowling,” he admitted. “Today wasn’t our day, but it’s important that we stick to the things we’ve been doing.”

He also brushed aside concerns around fatigue, emphasising consistency in approach.

“This is a format where a lot of players can change the game, and it’s all about execution,” Shreyas Iyer added. “The body was a bit fatigued, but that can’t be the reason. This is our first loss, and it teaches us a lot.”

Earlier, Punjab got off to a brisk start with Prabhsimran Singh smashing 59, while Marcus Stoinis provided a late surge with a blistering unbeaten 62 off just 22 deliveries. Contributions from Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly ensured PBKS maintained momentum through the middle overs. For Rajasthan, Yash Raj Punja stood out with two crucial wickets.

In response, Rajasthan’s young opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again set the tone alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. The duo raced to 51 inside the powerplay before Arshdeep Singh broke through. Jaiswal continued the charge, bringing up a fluent half-century, while Dhruv Jurel kept the scoreboard ticking as RR crossed 100 in under nine overs.

Punjab clawed back through Yuzvendra Chahal, who removed Jurel, Jaiswal, and Riyan Parag in a crucial spell to momentarily tilt the game. However, Donovan Ferreira showcased maturity under pressure, stitching together a match-winning partnership with impact substitute Shubham Dubey.
