Sunrisers Hyderabad have made a strategic squad update for IPL 2026, bringing in RS Ambrish as an injury replacement for Shivam Mavi. The right-arm pacer has been ruled out of the remainder of the season due to a groin injury, forcing SRH to look for a like-for-like option with added versatility.

Ambrish, a promising all-rounder, rose to prominence during the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup 2026, where he played a key role in India’s title-winning campaign. The young talent finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker for India in the tournament, claiming 11 wickets, including an impressive 4/29 against New Zealand.

A right-arm medium pacer and capable left-handed batter, he offers balance—something SRH will value in the latter half of the tournament. He joins the franchise for INR 30 lakh.

Born in 2007, Ambrish has quickly built a reputation as a dependable performer in age-group cricket. His recent domestic outings for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy have further strengthened his credentials, marking him as one of the emerging names to watch in Indian cricket.

For Mavi, however, this injury is another setback in a career that has often been interrupted by fitness concerns. Just as he looked set to build momentum, injuries have repeatedly stalled his progress, including missing IPL seasons due to recurring issues.

Despite these challenges, Mavi’s talent has never been in doubt. His memorable international debut for India in 2023—where he registered figures of 4/22 against Sri Lanka—remains a testament to his potential. Known for his “hit-the-deck” bowling, sharp bouncers, and effectiveness at the death, Mavi continues to be regarded as a high-impact bowler when fit.

As SRH push for a strong finish in IPL 2026, Ambrish’s inclusion could prove to be a smart long-term investment.
