Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are set for another high-voltage IPL 2026 clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday, with two of the tournament’s most decorated franchises meeting at a time when both are fighting to stay alive in the playoff race. For once, this is not a battle between teams at their peak. Instead, both CSK and MI are trying to recover from below-par campaigns that have left them stuck in the bottom half of the table.

CSK currently sit seventh with six points from eight matches, while MI are one place lower in ninth with just four points from eight outings. That pressure has only intensified after a season in which Mumbai’s bowling attack has failed to deliver the kind of control and bite expected from them.

A major concern for MI has been Jasprit Bumrah’s form. The ace fast bowler, usually a nightmare for batters, has been taken for runs more often than fans are used to seeing. Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin believes fatigue could be a factor behind Bumrah’s dip, especially with the demands of a long season beginning to show.

“Jasprit Bumrah has struggled this season, no two ways about it,” Ravichandran Ashwin said. “There have been indications ahead of his slower ball in recent times. Maybe it is fatigue because of the long season.”

“But Bumrah isn’t the only reason MI are struggling to limit each over under 10 runs,” he added, pointing to wider bowling issues in the unit.

CSK, meanwhile, will draw confidence from their dominant 101-run win over MI earlier in the season at Wankhede. With home conditions now on their side, the Super Kings will be eager to complete the double over their arch-rivals and tighten their grip on MI’s fading campaign.
