Delhi Capitals have received a timely boost ahead of their IPL 2026 clash against Chennai Super Kings, with bowling coach Munaf Patel confirming the return of Lungi Ngidi after his injury layoff. Ngidi had suffered a worrying blow during a match against Punjab Kings on April 25, where he landed awkwardly while attempting a catch and had to be stretchered off the field.

The incident ruled him out for two matches as he completed the mandatory recovery period following a head injury. “Everyone is fit. Lungi is fit. He didn’t play two games because of the six-day rest criterion,” Munaf Patel confirmed ahead of the crucial fixture.
Ngidi’s return significantly strengthens Delhi’s bowling attack, which has already been bolstered by the arrival of Mitchell Starc. The left-arm pacer made an immediate impact in his first appearance of the season, offering control and wicket-taking ability with the new ball.

Delhi’s bowling concerns were exposed earlier when they failed to defend a massive total against Punjab, highlighting the lack of breakthroughs in the PowerPlay. Munaf stressed that having strike bowlers like Starc and Ngidi can transform the game early.

“When you have a wicket-taking bowler in the PowerPlay, the whole scenario changes. Big totals are being chased because teams aren’t losing early wickets,” he explained. He also pointed out that improved coordination within the bowling unit has been a key focus. “Bowling in partnerships was missing earlier, but that has been addressed now,” Munaf added.

The coach also shed light on the decision to bench David Miller in the previous game. With only four overseas slots available and injuries affecting team balance, Delhi opted to include Pathum Nissanka as an opener while fielding two overseas pacers.
The strategy reflects DC’s attempt to strike the right balance as the tournament enters a crucial phase.
