KL Rahul has candidly reflected on his evolution as a T20 batter, admitting that he was once overlooked in the shortest format and labelled primarily as a red-ball specialist. Today, however, the Delhi Capitals star finds himself rewriting that narrative with consistent performances in IPL 2026. Rahul has been one of the standout performers this season, highlighted by a stunning unbeaten 152 off 64 balls against the Punjab Kings.

Although that innings came in a losing cause, it served as a powerful reminder of his ability to dominate T20 bowling attacks when in rhythm. Despite not featuring in a T20 International for India since 2022, Rahul remains a key figure in the ODI and Test setups, while continuing to build his white-ball credentials through the IPL.
Speaking on JioStar’s show ‘Superstars’, KL Rahul opened up about the challenges of breaking free from early perceptions. “Ten years ago, I would have given anything to be part of a T20 team. I was never rated as a T20 player—I was seen as a Test cricketer,” he said. “That journey of reshaping my white-ball game is something I’m really proud of. I’ve made mistakes along the way, but that’s part of growth.”

KL Rahul emphasised that while results may fluctuate, his commitment to preparation has remained constant.
“What matters to me is that I’ve always given my best—both in matches and in preparation. In sport, things won’t always go your way, and you have to accept that.” Now 34, KL Rahul believes perspective has been key to navigating the highs and lows of his career. “When I feel low about what I haven’t achieved, I remind myself of what I have. That keeps me grounded and motivated,” he explained, adding that he still has plenty left to accomplish.

A significant shift in Rahul’s mindset, however, has come away from the field. Becoming a father has brought a new sense of calm and clarity to his life. Rahul and his wife, Athiya Shetty, welcomed a baby girl last year—a moment he describes as transformative.
“Fatherhood has been the most beautiful experience. You don’t truly understand happiness until you hold your child,” KL Rahul shared. He credits this phase of life for positively influencing his cricket as well. “When I see her smile, everything else fades away—injuries, pressure, expectations. It’s helped me stay relaxed and focused.”

That mental shift has also changed his approach to the game. “I don’t overthink anymore. I just go out, enjoy those few hours on the field, and give my best,” Rahul said. As IPL 2026 progresses, Rahul’s journey stands as a testament to resilience, adaptability, and the importance of perspective—both on and off the field.
