The BCCI has intensified its crackdown on player movement and off-field activity during IPL 2026 following multiple incidents that have raised serious concerns within the Board’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU). With the tournament entering a crucial phase, franchises have now been warned to tighten internal protocols and monitor player interactions more closely.

According to a recent PTI report, the BCCI circulated a detailed advisory to all IPL teams after repeated protocol breaches were flagged during the ongoing season. The concerns reportedly range from players moving around without prior security clearance to content creators gaining access to sensitive areas around training sessions and match venues.
One incident that particularly alarmed officials involved a young cricketer seeking help from members of a franchise’s social media team to create personal content for his own platforms. While player-driven content has become common in modern cricket, the issue escalated when visuals from inside practice sessions and restricted areas surfaced on a private social media account.

The BCCI and ACU are understood to be worried about the growing access temporary staff and freelance creators have to players and support personnel during the IPL. Officials reportedly believe such unrestricted movement creates operational and anti-corruption risks, especially in a tournament as high-profile as the IPL.
As a result, several franchises have already started reviewing their internal systems. Teams are now believed to be reducing the size of their digital and content units, particularly seasonal hires brought in exclusively for the tournament. The advisory also reportedly highlighted concerns surrounding potential “honey traps” and warned franchises to stay alert regarding outsiders entering team environments and hotels.

Apart from concerns about digital content, the BCCI also objected to unauthorised guests visiting players at team hotels. One report claimed that a player repeatedly hosted visitors in his hotel room late at night despite existing guidelines. When questioned, the matter was allegedly brushed aside internally due to the player’s seniority within the squad.
A former IPL team manager admitted that enforcing discipline equally across all players can often become difficult. “I am not surprised,” the former manager reportedly said. “At times, players use their stature within the team to bend the rules. Once I told a player to meet his friends in the hotel lobby instead of his room, but he dismissed the concern completely.”

In another reported incident, a player allegedly ignored repeated calls from team officials before returning to the hotel late at night with friends. Sources familiar with the matter claimed no strict action followed because of the player’s close relationship with franchise owners. With the BCCI now stepping up surveillance and compliance measures, IPL franchises are expected to operate under far stricter discipline and security protocols moving forward.
