Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have enjoyed an impressive IPL 2026 campaign so far, but their push for a top-two finish faces another major test against an in-form Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) side in Raipur. While RCB climbed to the top of the points table after a dramatic last-ball win over the Mumbai Indians, KKR arrived with growing confidence after reviving their season through a remarkable turnaround. Not long ago, Kolkata looked completely out of contention after collecting just one point from their opening six matches.

However, four consecutive victories have transformed their playoff hopes and reignited belief within the camp. Their resurgence has mirrored RCB’s memorable comeback in IPL 2024, when Bengaluru recovered from a disastrous first half of the season to qualify for the playoffs. KKR’s revival has been driven by a more fearless batting approach and a bowling unit finally operating with consistency. Finn Allen’s explosive unbeaten century in the previous game highlighted the renewed confidence at the top of the order, while the middle order has also started contributing at crucial moments.

For RCB, concerns remain despite their strong position on the table. Phil Salt’s injury absence has hurt the balance of the side, with Jacob Bethell struggling to make an impact in recent games. Virat Kohli’s rare back-to-back ducks have also exposed vulnerabilities in the batting unit, forcing the middle order into pressure situations earlier than expected.

Players like Jitesh Sharma and Romario Shepherd are yet to consistently deliver with the bat, meaning RCB will be desperate for stronger starts and smoother middle-over transitions against KKR’s dangerous spin attack. Much of Kolkata’s recent success has revolved around Varun Chakravarthy, who has picked up eight wickets in his last four matches. However, his fitness remains a concern after he suffered a leg injury in recent outings. KKR will hope the mystery spinner recovers in time for this crucial clash.

The Raipur surface is once again expected to assist bowlers. Recent matches at the venue have shown that totals between 160 and 180 can be highly competitive, setting up another potentially thrilling contest between two teams carrying strong momentum into the business end of IPL 2026.

RCB are likely to continue with Jacob Bethell at the top of the order as Phil Salt remains unavailable due to a finger injury ahead of the IPL 2026 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders in Raipur. Salt is yet to regain full fitness, forcing RCB to stick with the young English batter for another important fixture.

There was also a minor fitness concern around Krunal Pandya after the all-rounder suffered cramps during the win over the Mumbai Indians. However, the experienced spinner is expected to be available despite skipping Tuesday’s practice session to rest and recover.

RCB’s batting practice also offered a few interesting clues regarding their possible playing XI. The batters trained largely in their expected match positions, but Venkatesh Iyer batting ahead of Jitesh Sharma, Tim David, and Romario Shepherd raised eyebrows. The move hinted that the former KKR all-rounder could be in line for a bigger role in the upcoming encounter.

Probable XII: Virat Kohli, Jacob Bethell, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar (c), Venkatesh Iyer/Romario Shepherd, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Tim David, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, Suyash Sharma, Rasikh Salam Dar/Jacob Duffy

KKR remain anxious over Varun Chakravarthy’s fitness. The mystery spinner attended training and bowled lightly but avoided operating at full intensity. Assistant coach Shane Watson admitted the franchise remains hopeful but uncertain about his availability. Watson also confirmed that Matheesha Pathirana is fully fit and ready, though team combinations have kept him out of the playing XI so far.

Probable XII: Ajinkya Rahane (c), Finn Allen, Angkrish Raghuvanshi (wk), Cameron Green, Rovman Powell, Manish Pandey, Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Anukul Roy, Kartik Tyagi, Vaibhav Arora, Varun Chakaravarthy/Navdeep Saini
