Mohammed Siraj endured a rare fielding lapse during the IPL 2026 clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans at Eden Gardens on Saturday, dropping a straightforward catch that allowed Finn Allen to punish GT heavily. Allen, known for his explosive batting style, made Gujarat pay for the missed opportunity with a blistering half-century that shifted momentum firmly in KKR’s favour.

The Kiwi opener had already survived an earlier scare after Jason Holder failed to hold on to a difficult chance at covers. However, Siraj’s miss proved even more costly.

The moment came in the seventh over when Allen mistimed a lofted shot straight towards long-on. Siraj settled underneath the ball and attempted a reverse-cup catch, but the ball slipped through his hands in what looked like a regulation chance. At the time, Allen was batting on 33.

The KKR batter capitalised immediately after the reprieve, accelerating the scoring rate and bringing up a quick-fire fifty to put the hosts in complete control of the contest. Gujarat Titans’ sloppy fielding ultimately gave one of the IPL’s most dangerous hitters the freedom to dominate at Eden Gardens.
