Virat Kohli’s latest comments on fitness standards in Indian sports have gone viral, with the former India captain openly admitting that cricketers are nowhere close to matching the physical demands faced by hockey players. Kohli’s statement has since earned widespread appreciation from members of the Indian hockey team and sports fans across the country.

Widely regarded as one of the fittest cricketers of the modern era, Kohli has played a major role in transforming fitness culture within Indian cricket over the last decade. However, while speaking at the RCB Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit, the batting superstar acknowledged that hockey players operate at a completely different level in terms of endurance and stamina.
“I know people sometimes look at fitness as something extraordinary, but for me, it is what the job demands. It should be the norm, not something celebrated as special,” Virat Kohli said.

The former India skipper then made a striking comparison between the fitness standards of cricket and hockey.
“Cricket is in such prime focus in our country that we often overlook other sports. If I am being honest, we aren’t even 15% of the fitness of an Indian hockey player. If the hockey players watch our training sessions, they would laugh because their sport demands far more,” Virat Kohli added.

The remarks quickly gained attention on social media, with several hockey stars reacting positively to Kohli’s honesty and respect for the sport. Indian midfielder Hardik Singh praised Kohli for recognising the discipline and hard work involved in hockey at the international level.
“Virat Kohli has performed for India under immense pressure for years and has set standards for fitness that athletes across sports look up to. So when someone of his stature says this, it means a lot to the hockey community,” Hardik Singh said.
