Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has received major legal relief after the Alipore Court acquitted him in a cheque bounce case filed by his wife, Hasin Jahan. The case, which had been pending for nearly four years at the Alipore Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court, revolved around allegations linked to a bounced cheque worth ₹1 lakh issued towards household expenses.

On Wednesday, the court ruled in Shami’s favour, stating that the allegations made against the India pacer could not be proven. The verdict comes as an important development in the long-running legal battle between Shami and Hasin Jahan, which has remained in the public spotlight since 2018.
According to the complaint filed by Hasin Jahan, Mohammed Shami allegedly issued a cheque for ₹1 lakh for household expenses, but it bounced after being deposited in a bank account. Following the incident, she approached the court and also lodged several additional complaints against Shami and his family members under different legal provisions.

Mohammed Shami personally appeared before the court during Wednesday’s hearing and expressed relief after the verdict was announced. “I knew the verdict would go in our favour because I had done nothing wrong. I have paid every penny that I was required to pay,” Shami told reporters outside the court.

The senior India pacer also reflected on the personal challenges he has faced over the last few years while balancing professional cricket and legal battles. “Whether on or off the field, I always strive to handle every situation to the best of my ability,” he said.
Currently representing Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2026, Shami has continued to remain active in competitive cricket despite ongoing personal disputes and injury setbacks in recent years.
However, the broader legal dispute between Shami and Hasin Jahan is far from over. The maintenance and alimony case involving the couple is still being heard in court. Under earlier directions from the Calcutta High Court, Shami currently pays ₹1.5 lakh per month to Hasin Jahan along with ₹2.5 lakh for the upbringing and education of their daughter.

Hasin Jahan later approached the Supreme Court, claiming the monthly maintenance amount of ₹4 lakh was insufficient to cover expenses. During proceedings, the apex court questioned whether the amount could genuinely be considered inadequate for supporting both mother and daughter.
While the maintenance matter remains unresolved, the acquittal in the cheque bounce case marks a significant legal victory for Mohammed Shami amid a prolonged and highly publicised legal battle.
