Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Shivam Dube produced a stunning moment in the field to dismiss Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill during the IPL 2026 clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, May 21. Dube showed excellent awareness and balance as he backpedalled calmly to complete a brilliant catch, ending Gill’s explosive innings of 64 runs off just 37 deliveries.
The wicket came in the 13th over of Gujarat’s innings and finally broke the massive 125-run opening partnership between Gill and Sai Sudharsan. CSK pacer Spencer Johnson delivered a fuller ball at around 140 kmph from around the wicket, tempting Gill into playing an aggressive flick shot. However, the GT skipper failed to keep the ball down as the bat twisted slightly in his hands, resulting in a thick top edge that ballooned high into the night sky.

Positioned inside the circle, Shivam Dube reacted quickly and tracked the ball brilliantly while moving several yards backwards. Despite losing balance towards the end, the CSK all-rounder safely completed the catch as he fell to the ground, giving Chennai a much-needed breakthrough after a difficult start.

Before his dismissal, Shubman Gill once again underlined why he has been one of the standout performers of IPL 2026. The stylish opener struck four boundaries and three sixes during his innings and also became the leading run-scorer of the season. Gill now has 616 runs from 13 matches, including six half-centuries.

GT’s dominant batting display, led by Gill and Sai Sudharsan, powered the hosts towards a huge total of 229/4 in 20 overs, with Jos Buttler remaining unbeaten on 57. A victory against CSK would strengthen Gujarat’s hopes of finishing inside the top two in the IPL 2026 points table. Meanwhile, CSK’s playoff qualification hopes remain dependent on other results despite staying alive in the race for the fourth spot.
