At just 15 years old, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is already thinking far beyond the milestones that usually define young batting talents. While most teenage cricketers dream about scoring their first century or celebrating a half-century, the Rajasthan Royals youngster has set himself a far more ambitious target — becoming the first batter in history to score 200 runs in a professional T20 innings. The teenage sensation made the bold statement during a conversation with former England captain Kevin Pietersen on his YouTube channel, giving fans a glimpse into the fearless mentality that has rapidly made him one of the most exciting prospects in Indian cricket.

When Pietersen asked whether he enjoyed reaching fifty-run milestones, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gave a surprisingly calm response. “No, not that much,” he admitted.

The discussion soon shifted towards his long-term ambitions, and the youngster made it clear that traditional batting landmarks do not excite him. Instead, his focus is on rewriting the history books of T20 cricket.

“I want to score 200 in T20s. I want to break his record and score 200,” Vaibhav Sooryavanshi said while referring to Chris Gayle’s legendary record. Gayle’s unbeaten 175 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Pune Warriors India during IPL 2013 still remains the highest individual score in T20 cricket. More than a decade later, no batter has managed to cross the 200-run mark in the format, highlighting the scale of Vaibhav’s ambition.

What stands out most is the teenager’s complete lack of fear. When Pietersen pointed out that even a century would only take him halfway to his target, Vaibhav remained completely unfazed.

“If I play all 20 overs in any game, I can break that 175-run record,” he confidently said. That belief is built on a naturally aggressive style of batting and an ability to maintain focus with out becoming distracted by personal milestones. Vaibhav also revealed that he never feels pressure when approaching big scores. “No, never. I just keep playing my natural game at that point,” he said when asked about batting in the nervous nineties.

The confidence may sound extraordinary for someone so young, but Vaibhav’s recent performances suggest there is substance behind the bold claims. He smashed 175 in the Under-19 World Cup final, setting a record for the highest individual score in the title clash. He also narrowly missed out on a double century in List A cricket after scoring 190 for Bihar in the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Perhaps the most astonishing revelation came when Vaibhav Sooryavnashi spoke about an innings that never officially entered the record books. “I played one of our domestic matches for my state, batted through the full 50 overs and scored 335 not out,” he revealed.

For a 15-year-old cricketer, those numbers are remarkable and underline both his stamina and hunger for marathon innings. Scoring 200 in T20 cricket remains one of the game’s greatest untouched achievements, but Vaibhav Sooryavanshi already believes it is only a matter of time before someone gets there — and he wants to be the first.
