Ahead of the high-pressure knockout encounter in Mullanpur, Sooryavanshi walked towards the broadcast area during the warm-up session and respectfully touched the feet of batting legend Sunil Gavaskar and former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar, who were part of the pre-match panel. The heartwarming moment instantly went viral, with fans praising the youngster for staying humble despite his meteoric rise in IPL 2026.

The moment also created a light-hearted scene when presenter Jatin Sapru jokingly stepped away, fearing he too was about to receive the same traditional gesture from the teenage prodigy.

However, once the match began, Sooryavanshi transformed into a complete destroyer with the bat.

The Rajasthan Royals opener delivered one of the most explosive innings in IPL history, hammering a sensational 97 off just 29 balls against a strong Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling attack led by Pat Cummins. The left-handed batter smashed 12 towering sixes and five boundaries, while reaching his fifty in just 16 deliveries.

During the innings, Sooryavanshi also broke Chris Gayle’s long-standing record for the most sixes in a single IPL season, taking his tally to 65 maximums. He further surpassed David Warner’s record for the highest powerplay runs scored in an IPL season.

By the time the teenager was dismissed, Rajasthan had raced to 125/1 in only eight overs, leaving SRH stunned. RR eventually secured a dominant 47-run victory to book their place in Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans.
