The excitement surrounding Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has reached extraordinary levels, with the Rajasthan Royals teenager quickly becoming one of the most talked-about names in Indian cricket. Following a sensational IPL 2026 campaign, discussions about his future have intensified, with fans and experts already debating when he should make his India debut and whether he has the potential to become an all-format star.

However, one cricketing icon who understands the pressures of teenage stardom better than anyone is Sachin Tendulkar. Speaking at the Cricinfo Honours event in Mumbai, where he was recognised as the Best Men’s International Batter of the 21st Century, Tendulkar praised Sooryavanshi’s remarkable talent while urging everyone to remain patient with the 15-year-old prodigy.

Sachin Tendulkar revealed that he was curious to watch Sooryavanshi after hearing widespread praise about the youngster’s performances. “Everyone is talking about Sooryavanshi, and I watched him bat — it was magnificent,” Tendulkar said. “I mean he is something truly special. And not just the ability to hit the ball, but what also fascinated me was the wrist work that he has.”

The batting legend highlighted that Sooryavanshi’s success is built on technique rather than brute force. “To be able to play in all directions of the ground, you need good wrist work. He is not slogging the ball. He is picking the line and length earlier than the rest of the guys and is able to clear the rope comfortably,” Sachin Tendulkar explained.

The praise comes after a record-breaking IPL season in which Sooryavanshi scored 776 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 237.31. The teenage opener also smashed 72 sixes, surpassing Chris Gayle’s long-standing record for the most maximums in a single IPL season.

Despite the growing calls for an immediate India call-up, Sachin Tendulkar avoided making any direct selection recommendations, especially with BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar present at the event. Instead, he emphasized the importance of allowing the youngster to develop naturally without unnecessary pressure. “I would tell him to just be himself,” Tendulkar said. He’s a player who looks very confident and very sure of what he wants to do. I would not want to play around with his natural instincts.”

Tendulkar believes that every cricketer eventually faces new challenges, but experience teaches them how to respond.

“There is always a first time. In Test cricket, along with age, he will learn how to deal with various challenges. The bowler is asking a question every ball. What solutions do you find?” When asked whether he would like to see Sooryavanshi play Test cricket in the future, Tendulkar made his position clear.

“Not just me, but everyone would want to see him at some stage. I don’t know when that is going to happen. But an exciting talent needs encouragement. If he’s doing well, then we need to support him, enjoy his success, and not put pressure on him constantly.”

For now, Indian cricket’s newest sensation continues to impress, but Tendulkar’s message serves as a timely reminder that extraordinary talent flourishes best when given time, trust, and patience.
