The stage is set for a blockbuster IPL 2026 final, and much of the pre-match discussion has centred around the surface at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans preparing for the biggest game of the season on Sunday, May 31, fresh insights into the pitch have added another layer of intrigue to an already highly anticipated title clash.

According to a senior Gujarat Cricket Association official, the final will be played on the mixed-soil Pitch No. 6, a surface expected to provide a balanced contest between bat and ball. While batters are likely to enjoy the true bounce and carry on offer, fast bowlers could also find assistance with the new ball, especially during the early stages of the innings.

“It will be a good pitch,” the Gujarat Cricket Association official told RevSportz. “The pitch will have good bounce and carry. It will aid run-scoring. At the same time, there will be something for the bowlers, especially upfront. You can call it a sporting pitch.”

The pitch already carries significant history. Earlier this year, it hosted the T20 World Cup final, where India piled up a massive 255 before dismissing New Zealand for 159. However, the same surface also witnessed the Gujarat Titans bowling out the Royal Challengers Bengaluru for 155 during the IPL league stage, highlighting its ability to reward disciplined bowling despite its reputation as a batting-friendly wicket.

Ahead of the final, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill emphasised that handling pressure, rather than pitch conditions, could be the decisive factor.

“Dharamshala is kind of a difficult venue to get to and travel from, but yes, physically, they might have an advantage. But I think finals are all about the mental side of the game, so the team that is mentally up for the challenge is the one that is going to win,” Shubman Gill said.

GT have had a demanding route to the final, overcoming Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 despite travel disruptions caused by thunderstorms. The Titans have also been boosted by the form of Jason Holder, whose 17 wickets in 10 matches have added significant depth to their bowling attack.

Meanwhile, RCB enter the final with many experts labelling them favourites. The defending champions have showcased remarkable batting depth throughout the tournament, crossing the 200-run mark nine times. While Virat Kohli has once again led from the front, crucial contributions from Rajat Patidar, Devdutt Padikkal, Tim David, Krunal Pandya, and Venkatesh Iyer have made Bengaluru one of the most complete teams in the competition.

Interestingly, the IPL 2026 final was initially scheduled to be played at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium before being shifted to Ahmedabad during the season. Now, with history, silverware, and pride on the line, the Narendra Modi Stadium is ready to host another memorable chapter in IPL history.
