Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s successful defence of the IPL title turned Bengaluru into a city-wide celebration on Sunday night, as chants of “Ee Sala Nu Cup Namde” and “Prati Sala Cup Namde” echoed across the city following RCB’s thrilling victory over Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2026 final. Just a year after ending their long wait for a maiden IPL trophy, RCB created history by winning a second consecutive championship under captain Rajat Patidar.

The achievement sparked massive celebrations among fans, who turned up in huge numbers at cafes, restaurants, pubs, clubs, and community screening venues across Bengaluru. With public screenings restricted in several parts of the city, supporters gathered wherever they could to witness another memorable chapter in RCB’s journey. From the afternoon itself, excitement was visible across Bengaluru as fans donned the franchise’s iconic red jerseys and prepared for what they hoped would be another title-winning night.

As the final got underway, the usually bustling roads of Bengaluru witnessed an unusual calm. Thousands of loyal RCB supporters remained glued to television screens and giant displays, rarely taking their eyes off the action except during commercial breaks. Despite Gujarat Titans posting a modest target, nerves remained high among fans who feared a sudden collapse during the chase.

However, confidence grew steadily as RCB crossed the 100-run mark. Celebrations began even before the winning runs were scored, with cheers erupting across the city whenever Virat Kohli found the boundary. One of the loudest reactions came when the veteran batter survived a controversial catch decision, prompting whistles and celebrations from fans watching across Bengaluru. Once Kohli struck the winning six to seal the title, the city erupted.

Fireworks lit up the night sky, while jubilant supporters poured onto the streets to celebrate RCB’s latest triumph. Despite repeated appeals from authorities to celebrate responsibly, reports emerged of bike rallies, stunt riding, excessive honking, and firecracker displays in several areas. Given the tragic incidents that occurred during previous title celebrations, police maintained heightened security across the city.

Congratulating the franchise on its historic achievement, Karnataka leader D.K. Shivakumar praised the team’s resilience and consistency. He said RCB had once again made Bengaluru proud with its grit, composure, and champion mindset, while also acknowledging the players, coaching staff, support personnel, and millions of passionate fans who stood by the team throughout the season.
