Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Tim David has been handed a one-match suspension by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following a breach of the IPL Code of Conduct during the IPL 2026 final against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad. However, the suspension will take effect only at the start of the IPL 2027 season.

The IPL confirmed that David was found guilty of a Level 1 offence under Article 2.9 of the Code of Conduct, which deals with throwing a ball or any piece of cricket equipment in an inappropriate or dangerous manner during a match. As a result, the Australian power-hitter was fined 50 per cent of his match fee and received two Demerit Points.

According to the official statement, the incident occurred during the 10th over of Gujarat Titans’ innings when David aggressively threw an ice bag in the direction of on-field umpire Nitin Menon. The 30-year-old admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by match referee Javagal Srinath.

The punishment carries added significance because it was David’s third Level 1 offence of the season. He had already accumulated three Demerit Points from previous breaches, including an incident in which he refused to hand the ball back to the umpire during a league-stage fixture. The latest offence took his tally to five Demerit Points, automatically triggering a one-match suspension under IPL regulations.

As a result, David will miss the opening game of IPL 2027 regardless of which franchise he represents. Despite the disciplinary setback, the Australian was a key contributor to RCB’s successful title defence.

Operating as a finisher, he scored 305 runs during the season at an impressive strike rate of 188.27, consistently providing late-order firepower. With the next IPL mega auction still a year away, RCB are expected to retain David, whose match-winning abilities remain a valuable asset despite the suspension.
