India A have made a late change to their squad for the ongoing Tri-Nations Series in Sri Lanka, with fast bowler Ashok Sharma drafted in as an injury replacement for Yudhvir Singh. The development comes shortly after India A suffered a heartbreaking Super Over defeat against Sri Lanka A in a dramatic contest in Dambulla on Monday.

Yudhvir, who was part of the original squad, did not feature in any of India A’s first three matches in the tournament. With the pacer now ruled out due to injury, the team management has turned to one of the most promising fast-bowling talents on the domestic circuit.
Ashok Sharma is set to join the squad immediately and is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka on Tuesday. The right-arm speedster should be available for selection when India A face Afghanistan A in their final league-stage match on June 17, a must-win encounter for Tilak Varma’s side.

The call-up caps a remarkable rise for Ashok, who has enjoyed a breakthrough season across domestic and franchise cricket. The 24-year-old emerged as the joint-highest wicket-taker in the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, claiming 22 wickets in just 10 matches. His consistent performances earned him an opportunity with the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026.
Although he featured in only six matches during the IPL season, Ashok impressed with his raw pace and wicket-taking ability, picking up six wickets while regularly clocking speeds in excess of 150 kmph. His ability to generate pace has made him one of the most exciting young fast bowlers in Indian cricket.

Adding another significant chapter to his career journey, Ashok recently switched from Rajasthan to Gujarat ahead of the upcoming domestic season after receiving a No-Objection Certificate from the Rajasthan Cricket Association.
India A will now hope Ashok’s arrival can provide a boost at a crucial stage of the tournament. The team currently sits under pressure after losing two of its three matches, including the controversial Super Over defeat to Sri Lanka A.

A victory against Afghanistan A is essential if India A are to keep their hopes of reaching the final alive. Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans all-rounder Arshad Khan remains India’s leading wicket-taking threat in the competition. The left-arm pacer has claimed four wickets so far and nearly guided India A to victory against Sri Lanka A with a superb final over before the match slipped away in the Super Over.
