Prince Yadav made an immediate impression on his India debut in the second ODI against Afghanistan at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on June 17, producing a sharp diving catch to dismiss Ibrahim Zadran. The young pacer, who came into the side in place of Prasidh Krishna, added value with both ball and fielding as India pushed for an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Yadav had already shown promise with the ball and was unfortunate not to claim a debut wicket earlier, only for a TV umpire call to rule it a no-ball. Even so, the Delhi-born youngster did not let the moment pass him by in the field. The breakthrough came when Arshdeep Singh hurried Zadran with a well-directed bouncer.

The Afghanistan opener went for the pull, but only managed a leading edge that ballooned towards the leg-side. Reacting quickly from deep backward square leg, Yadav sprinted across, slid in full length and completed a brilliant low catch before the ball could drop into empty space. The effort drew immediate celebrations from his teammates, who quickly surrounded the debutant to congratulate him on a memorable moment.

At the time of writing, Afghanistan had made a steady start to their chase, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz giving them a platform through a quick 41-run knock. The visitors were 131/3 after 24 overs.

Earlier in the day, India posted a massive 402, powered by centuries from captain Shubman Gill and wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan. Rohit Sharma gave the innings early momentum before Gill took command with a superb 154, while Kishan raced to 125 off just 79 balls.

Afghanistan’s bowlers had a tough outing, although Nangeyalia Kharoti stood out with four wickets and Rashid Khan added three more. Even so, India’s dominant batting effort ensured they remained in complete control of the contest.
